Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal information. Last updated 13 August 2026.
Who we are
Blue Ocean Strategy Australia ("we", "us", "our") is a strategy consulting practice based in Melbourne, Australia. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Because this website is accessible worldwide, we also aim to respect the privacy expectations of visitors from other jurisdictions, including the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.
What we collect
We only collect personal information that you choose to provide to us, such as:
- Your name, organisation, email address and phone number when you submit an enquiry, request an ebook, or book a discovery call;
- Any information you include in correspondence with us;
- Business information you share with us in the course of a consulting engagement.
We do not collect sensitive information (such as health, political or biometric data) through this website, and we ask that you do not submit it.
Cookies and analytics
We do not set advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies ourselves. Your browser may store small amounts of local data (such as your preference to dismiss our cookie notice) on your own device; that particular information never leaves your browser.
Some pages embed third-party services — for example, the Calendly scheduler on our Contact page for booking discovery calls, and book cover images served by Amazon. These providers may set their own cookies or similar technologies when you interact with them, under their own privacy policies (see calendly.com/privacy and amazon.com.au privacy notice). If you prefer not to interact with them, you can contact us directly by email or phone instead.
Where analytics is active on this site, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate visitor traffic and page performance — but only if you accept analytics cookies via the notice shown on your first visit. If you decline, no analytics code loads and no analytics cookies are set. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, approximate location (with IP anonymisation requested), device type and referral source; we configure the tag to deny advertising storage and ads personalisation. You can learn how Google handles this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and opt out at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser (the consent notice will then reappear) or by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
How we use your information
- To respond to your enquiries and provide the services you request;
- To deliver ebooks, guides or other resources you ask for;
- To administer consulting engagements;
- To comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We will not add you to a marketing list without your consent, and any marketing communication we send will include a simple way to opt out.
Disclosure and overseas transfer
We may share personal information with trusted service providers that help us operate this website and our practice (for example, email and website hosting providers). Some of those providers may store data on servers located outside Australia, including the United States. Where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs. We do not otherwise disclose personal information unless required by law.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described above or as required by law, after which it is deleted or de-identified.
Your rights
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you at any time. Visitors from the EU, UK and other jurisdictions may also have rights to erasure, data portability, restriction of processing, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable period.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au, or to your local data protection authority.
